Franchise FAQ
Considering a Westlight Windows & Doors franchise? These are the questions we hear most from prospective owners. The answers below give you a straight look at what it takes to open a Kingswell location, from investment to training to the day your first truck rolls out. No fine print games.
Common Questions
Do I need experience in windows and doors to open a franchise?
No, you don’t need trade experience. You need to be willing to learn the products, understand the install standards, and manage people and a P&L. Many of our most successful owners came from completely different industries. What transfers is discipline, comfort with a sales process, and the willingness to follow The Kingswell Way on every single job. Installation expertise lives with the technicians you’ll hire and the training we provide; your job as owner is to protect the promise.
What’s the total investment range?
A typical Westlight location requires an investment in the low six figures, depending on territory, vehicle package, initial inventory, and local real estate conditions. The range accounts for everything from franchise fees to working capital for your first few months of operations. We don’t publish a single nationwide number because buildout costs in one market don’t match another. When you reach the disclosure stage, you’ll see an itemized breakdown of exactly where every dollar goes, including what it takes to get through the first year without tightening the belt too hard.
Do you offer financing?
We don’t lend money ourselves, but we maintain relationships with commercial lenders who understand franchise models and have financed Kingswell locations before. Most owners combine a portion of liquid savings with an SBA-backed loan or a conventional business loan. We’ll help you prepare the package and talk through what lenders typically ask to see: personal financial statements, a credit history, and enough reserves to cover living expenses during ramp-up. You’ll want to have that conversation with a lender early, because it sets the realistic timeline for everything else.
Does a Westlight franchise come with territory exclusivity?
Yes. Each location operates with a defined service territory, sized to support a healthy book of business without overlap. The boundaries are written into the franchise agreement and based on population, home age, and the density of single-family residences that need window and door replacement. You won’t be competing with another Westlight location for the same homeowner. That’s the point of the model: you build reputation with your neighbors, and the territory is yours to grow for the long term.
How long is training, and what does it cover?
Initial training runs multiple weeks and blends classroom time with hands-on field work. You’ll learn the eight manufacturer lines including PGT, CGI, ECO Window Systems, and Therma-Tru, so you understand what each product does well and where it doesn’t belong. You’ll learn how to write an honest estimate, how to stage a job site so it’s left cleaner than we found it, and how to run the guarantee without flinching when something goes wrong. Training doesn’t end after opening week; you’ll have ongoing access to field support and refresher sessions as products and codes change.
What ongoing fees should I expect?
Like most franchise systems, Westlight charges an ongoing royalty based on a percentage of gross sales, plus a smaller contribution toward brand-level marketing and technology. The exact percentages are spelled out in the Franchise Disclosure Document, and there are no surprise pass-through fees for things you didn’t agree to. The model is built so the royalty funds things that actually help you: call center coverage, lead routing, brand trust, and the systems behind the Kingswell Guarantee. If a fee doesn’t clearly serve the owner, we don’t charge it.
How long does it take from signing to opening day?
Plan on roughly six to nine months. The timeline depends on a few things: how quickly you secure financing and a lease, how fast permitting and buildout move in your municipality, and how training schedules align with your start date. The process is staged deliberately so you don’t open before you’re ready. A door is a bigger promise than most people think, and we want the first job you run to be one you’re proud to put your name on.
What support do I get after I open?
You get what the brand runs on: live phone coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week, staffed by a real person who can schedule, answer questions, or dispatch help when a homeowner calls at 9 p.m. with a busted patio door. You get marketing guidance, access to the eight stocked manufacturer lines, ongoing training, and a guarantee framework that gives your crews something clear to work toward. You also get a peer network of owners who’ve solved the same problems you’ll face. None of us are brilliant enough to go it alone, and we don’t pretend otherwise.
What kind of person makes an ideal Westlight owner?
Someone who gets uncomfortable when a promise is broken. The Kingswell Way is simple enough to remember on a bad day: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. If those five lines feel like common sense, you’ll fit. If they feel like a burden, this isn’t your business. The ideal candidate has enough operating capital to survive a slow month, enough humility to learn, and enough pride to want the job done right the first time.
What’s the next step?
Call the franchising line at (903) 354-7134 and ask for the introductory packet. We’ll walk you through the process, answer your questions, and send you what you need to decide if a conversation makes sense. There’s no obligation, and nobody’s going to pressure you with a countdown clock. The opportunity will be here when you’re ready to talk, and we’d rather have a well-informed owner than a rushed one.
Still Have Questions?
If the answers above don’t cover what you’re wondering about, pickup the phone. Call (903) 354-7134 to speak with our franchising team directly, or submit the form below and we’ll respond promptly. No voicemail mazes, no chatbots, no runaround. A real person answers, and if we don’t know the answer, we’ll find someone who does.
