AfterWindow Company in Sausalito, CA
Replacing windows or doors in Sausalito is not the same job as it is in Mill Valley or Corte Madera. The salt-laden bay air, the steep hillside lots, and the floating-home docks along Gate 5 Road all change what materials work, how the work gets done, and what it costs. For window replacement, window installation, or door installation in Sausalito, you want a company that knows the difference between a standard vinyl retrofit and a marine-spec installation that has to survive constant movement and humidity. Call Westlight Windows & Doors at (903) 354-7134 and we’ll tell you straight what your house needs.
Why Sausalito Homes Are Different
Sausalito sits right at the northern edge of the Golden Gate, and the fog that rolls in off Richardson Bay doesn’t just make for moody mornings. It carries salt. Aluminum window frames that last thirty years a few miles inland start showing pitting and oxidation here in a fraction of that time. Steel hinges and handles corrode. Wood rot moves faster in the marine layer’s steady humidity. So when we talk window materials with a Sausalito homeowner, fiberglass, composite, and fully clad wood come up early, and bare aluminum usually gets written off by the second conversation.
Then there’s the housing stock. The hillside cottages from the 1920s through the 1950s often still have their original single-pane wood windows, and the rough openings are rarely square anymore after decades of settling on steep terrain. Mid-century hillside homes cantilever out over the slope, which makes access trickier than most Marin contractors expect. And on the floating-home docks at Waldo Point Harbor and along Gate 5 Road, frames flex with the tide. Rigid caulk joints fail within a season out there, which is a costly lesson some window crews have learned on Sausalito’s dime.
Our Main Sausalito Services
Most Sausalito homeowners call us about two things: replacing old windows that are fogged, sticking, or rotted out, and installing new doors that actually seal against the bay air. Here’s what each involves around here.
Window Replacement in Sausalito
Most replacement jobs in Sausalito involve pulling out original single-pane windows in hillside cottages, or addressing seal failures in mid-century aluminum frames that have given up fighting the salt air. The job usually means custom-sizing the new sash to an opening that hasn’t been square in forty years. For floating homes, it also means choosing frame material and sealants that can handle constant micro-movement. We walk every Sausalito job first and write a price before anything gets ordered. Window Replacement in Sausalito covers the details.
Window Installation in Sausalito
New window installation in Sausalito comes up a lot during remodels, additions, and full teardown-and-rebuild projects on the hillsides. The rough openings get built fresh, which means we can spec exactly the right product from the start: impact-rated frames where storms off the bay matter, low-e glass for the sun that pours in on the west-facing slopes. On floating homes, installation means planning for hull movement from day one, not hoping a standard flashing detail holds. See Window Installation in Sausalito for the full scope.
Door Installation in Sausalito
Entry doors in Sausalito take abuse from fog, ocean wind, and in the marina areas, salt sitting right at deck level. Thresholds rust, hinges corrode, wood slabs swell. Door installation involves more than hanging a slab: the rough opening gets insulated and flashed for the conditions, the threshold hardware is chosen for corrosion resistance, and the weatherstripping is sized for a door that will actually be closed against wind coming off the bay. Door Installation in Sausalito explains what to expect.

Brands We Service in Sausalito
We install from eight manufacturer lines so the product matches the house, not the other way around. In Sausalito that often means impact-rated PGT or CGI frames for hillside exposure, or ViewLux for its fiberglass line that handles marine air well. See our brands for the full rundown.

What pushes the price up in Sausalito is the access, the custom sizing, and the marine environment. Hillside lots often mean staging materials up a flight or two of stairs, and floating homes mean every piece of hardware has to be stainless or bronze. Whatever the number turns out to be, you’ll get it in writing before any work starts, and that written price doesn’t change at the door.

FAQs About Window Company in Sausalito
We schedule estimates within days, not weeks. Owen Satterfield runs the calendar personally, and Sausalito is close enough to our Bay Area dispatch office that most homeowners see us within three to five business days. Call (903) 354-7134 and a live person will get you on the schedule.
Yes, in most cases. The floating-home marinas along Gate 5 Road and at Waldo Point Harbor have their own rules about exterior changes, and some require signed-off plans before work starts. We coordinate with the marina office on every floating-home project. Call (903) 354-7134 and we’ll figure out what your dock requires.
It can, if the materials are wrong. Uncoated aluminum frames oxidize quickly in Sausalito’s marine layer, and standard steel hinges corrode. Fiberglass, composite, and fully clad frames hold up far better. We match materials to the specific exposure on your house, and if anything fails within the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.

What Sausalito Customers Say
"Replaced eight drafty old windows that were basically single pane. The house is warmer already and the street noise is way down. Crew was on time both days and the price was exactly the quote."
- Harold Bemis"Our energy bill in summer was brutal. New windows made a real dent in it. Salesman wasn't pushy and didn't do the fake "today only" discount thing the others tried."
- Bethany Oh"Two bedroom windows that never opened and one that wouldn't stay up. All replaced in an afternoon. The crew was clean, hauled off the old frames, and the quote held."
- Colette Rhee
